Murph Eyes
On the heels of the Country Clubbin’ video we featured, here are some words and a photo gallery Jeff Murphy (first section in Country Club video) put together from the past couple years in Santa Cruz.
Three years ago I decided to pack up the car with bmx bike in tow and take my long-ass red hair out to the west coast, with Santa Cruz dead in my sight. Not knowing anyone in the bmx scene here provided me with the opportunity to explore the stoney underbelly of this sleepy beach town. In the three years that have since followed I’ve been so lucky as to have been part of a tight knit crew of street assassins, trail blazers, park destroyers and what I’d like to consider lifelong friends. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel with these folks, party obscenely, enjoy the debauchery and the general revelry of what I’d like to think is the coolest place in California. With all that being said I’d like to share some of the photos from this spring and summer, taken from a 25 year old Nikon SLR and a 50 cent camera. So sit back, relax and enjoy the view of some of the Fucking Best Memories I’ve got to share. – Murph

‘Merica: Freedom, Bikes, Music.

Best Dressed: Taken at Dirty Mike Hernandez’s wedding, looking snazzy.

Henny Fiesta Bowl: HennyBadger shredding a 30+ year old pool better than some lifelong skaters can.

Hockey Helmets: Friends=Fun

Jack + Henny doubles: Moto inspired doubles runs, insanely dialed and frightening at the same time.

Japanese Rasta Flatlanders: Tripping at interbike, some japanese flatlanders preparing to win some kind of award.

Oregon Tricycle: Old timey trike growing in the wild.

Reflecting: Jackson, Hennessey and Otis contemplating on how to shred the bowl the hardest.

Santa Crews: Keep your ugly fuckin’ goldbrickin’ ass outta my beach community.

Shotgunned: DRTY-MYK with a fresh shotgun blast from a hatchet.

Tabes: Henndog blasting a classic table for a poorly lit photo on the california coast.

The 4th/The fourth: Santa Cruz homies enjoying the 4th of july, shortly before I passed out from too much celebration (aka jameson)

Tombstoner: Bbbrrrraaaaahhhhpppp.

Tripping at interbike: Undeniable classic shit right here.

You Wanna Get Choked Out?: DR. TYMYK giving the prescription for success.
Cranx Pool Party
Cranx Bike Park in Syracuse, New York just finished up their latest addition to the park, an amazing wooden bowl. We decided to get a gang together right after Thanksgiving and have an early winter pool party.
Big thanks goes out to Dale and Will at Cranx for the after-hours session. If you’re planning a winter riding trip, put a pin on Syracuse and get to Cranx. The main park is always being improved upon and the bowl is an absolute treat.
Bryan Tarbell grabbed his medium format camera and shot some photos, while Korey Kryder, Devon Swahlan and I captured some video from the session.

Will Bruce works at Cranx so, as you can imagine, he has a handle on the place.

Recent Boston transplant, Trevor Ashworth shooting the bars

Kyle Hibbard 180 over a pretty serious spine

Korey Kryder manned a camera for the night before hopping on a plane to Korea

Kyle Hibbard riding anything Cranx is a sight to behold

Toby Pettinelli, doing a switch pedal pick in between shouting hashtags to everyone

For a little background on the park, take a look at our Cranx video feature that Korey Kryder shot a while back.

To celebrate Mike Tag’s legacy, FBM is building a limited edition run of Mike’s signature frame, The Night Train. Re-factored for 2012, with the same heart as the original 2001 frame, this tribute frame will go fast. Proceeds from the frame will go to the Ithaca Skatepark and their planned expansion and Mike Tag memorial installation. Head over to the FBM site for info on the frame, how to pre-order and to see a great video that Steve Crandall put together, “Mike Tag Forever”.

Pizza in Vestal
The FBM gang is well known for putting together weekend events that leave everyone stunned and smiling. If you add Derek Nelson and his compound of unique ramps and sculptures to the mix, everything gets amplified.
Here are some snaps from the FBM/HCS Post Apocolympics in Vestal, NY.

Joel Barnett made the drive up from Nashville to over toothpick wild-assed spine.

If you’re interested in losing money, bet Jack Hartje that he won’t jump over something. Van Homan learned the hard way.

Jack Hartje also learned the hard way. This was a failed 360 attempt that sent Jack to the ground so violently, he immediately puked all over himself. Seriously.

Take a look at Kelly Baker. If you see him with this look on his face, keep a safe distance away and enjoy the show.

Crandall and the legendary Will Taubin.

Joel Barnett rips a flair out of a satellite dish.

Fly from Orlando, FL to upstate NY, shave the chin out of your beard and get shitty. Brien Kielb.

Devon Swalhan turndown mower.

Eric Hennessey did this foot plant considerably higher after some coaching from Kelly Baker.

It’s always a treat to watch Alex Magallan. No foot can.

Bobby Altiser rode this obstacle just like a normal coping spine. Canadian nosepicks and this hand plant 180.

Derek Nelson won some cash riding the pizza slice and decided to give the money away. Here Crandall makes it rain with Derek’s prize money.

After falling off the top of the pizza slice straight to the ground, Derek Nelson’s bars were in rough shape. No worries, he just put one hand on the crossbar and kept riding.

High fives.
